WBG understands that scheduling throughout the full cycle of the project during planning, design, construction, commissioning, hand over, and move-in is critical to success. We also understand that larger projects often require multiple contract and phased delivery and are challenging to manage and track. Our track record on some of the largest and most complex work in the region has proven the successful approach and skill sets we offer. WBG provides comprehensive project scheduling expertise using all common software and formats and tailor our approach to our client standards and regulatory framework. We know that good scheduling is founded on good communication and sound planning. We understand the importance of tracking critical path progress and milestones, managing float time, and confirming and integrating review and approval cycles and lead times. Our staff has the experience to ask the right questions and help clients to make timely and informed decisions to keep projects on track. WBG uses popular project management software packages that enable the project manager to assign staff to project tasks, display resource requirements profiles, and adjust the schedule of slack tasks so resource requirements more closely fit those available in the organization. Some packages can display multiple project resource requirements to facilitate organization-wide resource management, optimization, and leveling. Individual project requirements may be adjusted by manipulating schedule slack in tasks not on the critical path. This can facilitate allocation and leveling of staff throughout the organization. Unless one person is working on each task full time, the schedule duration on the Gantt chart will not be the same as the effort required. Effort requirements will drive project cost, but durations will drive the schedule. These distinctions are helpful when reconciling project and resource schedules. There are a number of ways to improve the schedule when client requires sooner completion rather than later. These are as follows:
  • Staffing is included early in a project so as not to slow it down while learning the ropes.
  • Provide a good team atmosphere with management support.
  • Review schedule dependencies and look for opportunities to overlap tasks or make serial tasks concurrent or parallel activities.
  • Review the project scope and remove or delay features or functionality from the project critical path.
  • Incorporate innovative approaches such as a different development methodology and alternative technologies.
